3 Reasons You're Failing to Reach Your New Years' Resolutions in 2022!

Hello again! Well, now it’s mid-March and I’m sure there are tons of people who have already failed to stay on track to their new years’ resolutions. The goodwill and inspiration you may have on January 1st have all but dwindled down into a dim light.

In today’s blog post I want to dive into how to stop failing your New Years’ goals and how to get back on track once and for all. I’m all for setting new sights and hopes come a new year, but why only do this practice in early January?

I think setting your sights on a better life should be something you do each and every month, week, and day. If you stay focused and consistent on what comes next, you will undoubtedly stick to your goals and follow through more often.

New Years' Resolution Mistake # 1 - You're trying to do too much!

This is without a doubt the biggest mistake of them all - trying to jam all of your goals right away into a 2-3month timeline.

Let me be real with you - results take time. No matter what you’re looking to accomplish - big changes don’t happen overnight. If you haven’t lost any weight for the previous decade, trying to lose 30 lbs from January to March is only setting you up for failure.

While I’m all for huge goals and a big vision if you want to be consistent with your new years’ goals and get them done year after year you must tone them down slightly. Rather than try and cram everything into a 2 or 3-month period give yourself more of a timeline.

When you take on more than you can handle you end up falling short - almost every time. Set aggressive goals that are in alignment with who you want to become and often.

Burnout, exhaustion, failure, and giving up are some of the words that come to mind when you take on too much at once. Be more selective in what you want to accomplish and focus on merely 3-5 different areas.

Who can realistically accomplish goals on a big scale in 15 or 20 different areas at once? I’ve yet to meet someone that could do all of this and that’s because there simply isn’t enough time. You must narrow your focus onto what really matters and fewer goals to accomplish them!

New Years’ Resolution Mistake # 2 - Your goals suck

Yes, I said it. Goals are obviously important to have when moving towards achieving your resolutions. But, are your goals any good?

Do you constantly come up with your goals in your head and say things like - “I want to earn a higher income in 2022!” Sorry to say but goals that aren’t very specific, detailed, and time-oriented aren’t tangible - meaning hard to actually accomplish it.

Creating the right goals that are written is your secret weapon. Goals are great, but if you don’t know how to set them properly and create the right goals for you, it will be hard to move ahead.

It’s time to revamp your goals into something that works. Go back to the drawing board and THINK about what you want in your life. This could be anything from more time with family, to better health, money, a new career and more. Get creative and don’t limit yourself in any way.

New Years’ Resolution Mistake # 3 - You don’t track your progress

This step is a critical building block to see big results. Most people fall off the wagon with their new years’ resolutions because they don’t track any progress. After 4-6 weeks they forget about what they even wanted to do and move on.

When you can see and measure your progress you stay motivated and inspired to keep it going. Even if your progress is minimal in a certain area you will be able to see it if you track it. If you don’t track it you might not even notice and give up.

Weekly and monthly reviews can be difficult habits to create, although if you can stick to these you will be doing something most people never accomplish. Reviewing your weeks and month will be a huge game-changer.

This allows you to see what’s working and what isn’t working. When to pivot and to stop doing something or when to try something new. Reviews are one of the best ways to get more done and see your progress.

Let’s say you want to increase your wealth and save $1000 per month. Each month you can track how much you’ve saved and the total more you want to go. This acts as a great way to also hold you accountable to keep saving your $1000 month after month.

The bottom line is to track and review what you want to improve upon. This works in any area and I’m positive you will see amazing results with this tip.

Well, there you have it - the top 3 mistakes holding you back from New Years’ Resolution glory:

  1. Doing too much at once

  2. Your goals may need a serious revamp

  3. You aren’t tracking your progress

While these may seem like simple things (which they are) they will no doubt have a profound effect on whether you succeed or fail to reach your resolutions.

If you want to sign up for the email goals course you can do that HERE!

**Bonus tip - do a quarterly review and assessment of your goals and vision every 3 months. Ex. end of March, end of June, and so on. By doing this quarterly review and check-in you will stay more accountable for what you want to achieve. These can help you hit bigger targets and continue setting (and achieving) big goals throughout the year.

Thanks for reading today’s post and have a wonderful day!
